Besides being unsightly.... things crammed on deck (especially on monohulls) 
can be dangerous from my observations over the years.

  We have discovered that the PDQ's side decks are the perfect width for 
cramming multiple 6 gallon jerry cans of fuel, water or whatever behind the 
lifelines.  It's not pretty, but very functional on long trips.
