Another thanks to Norm. And a story:

We were briefly in Friday Harbor, WA, this past February, and were standing
on the waterfront deciding where to go next. A uniformed man came out of a
storefront and started chatting. Turns out he was Coast Guard and apparently
lonely during the winter months. We ended up talking to him for a half hour
or so during which time he said, with some chagrin, "We're not in the safety
or drug enforcement business anymore. We're in the anti-terrorism business."

Ahmet and All,

To prepare for a Coast Guard boarding you could contact the volunteer
sailors at the Coast Guard Auxiliary. They will inspect your vessel for
free and let you know of any condition the CG would object to so you can
have your vessel ready to smoothly pass a CG boarding.

I have attached a scan of the checklist the CG left me at my latest
boarding.
