Aren't kerosene hurricane lamps suspended from a halyard (and a pair of
downhauls) on the foretriangle a common and accepted form of anchor
light? I'd guess that using a (brighter) electric light in the same
position would probably be just fine. I've known some people to carry
those little solar garden lights so that they can suspend them that way
as an anchor light. I've contemplated doing the same myself (but I still
have much bigger fish to fry in reducing my power consumption).

Cheers,
Kris
