I have not used any yards around Charleston, but going through on the ICW we once spent the night at Ross Marine. Ross Marine is a working marina with space for a few transients. It is a very isolated marina. There is considerable current - we were traveling almost 2 knots while tied in the slip. The marina has a 24 hour guard and he has to open the gate for you. There is not even a bathroom available except maybe a portapot. The marina is VERY isolated and there is not even a pizza delivery place nearby. Several people who came down the ICW with us were putting their boat up to be worked on.

You might want to look at Claiborne Young's books and/or websites as he rates marinas etc. http://cruisersnet.net/category/south-carolina/sc-marinas/ We looked at Daniel Island up the Cooper River, but the water was a little skinny for us and they mostly had little power boats. There's stuff up the Ashley, but have never been there because our mast height precludes going under the bridge. You might look at Beaufort SC and Georgetown as they are both pretty close by car from Charleston. We went into the Dataw Island marina once because our throttle cable broke, and they could do yard work there, but it was in a gated community. It is close enough to Charleston. I don't know if they could haul your boat or not. We have also stayed at the Boatyard in Georgetown but I think their yard is mostly for power boats. There may be facilities up the river by the bridge. _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://liveaboardonline.com/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardonline.com/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
