JIM, I Suspect the ratio of Demigods to pretty good people in bridge tenders is about the same ratio as you find among most of us.
It is nice when they have experience on a boat before doing the job. Today we are on the canal / river system on the West Side of Lake Okeechobee. This trip across has been one of the prettier trips we have taken in 4 trips up and down the ICW. We have a 49 foot mast and it was touch and go whether we could make it through the Port Mayaca Railroad Bridge on the East Side of Lake Okeechobee... so we decided to go through backwards! We were ready to hit full forward if we were going to be too close. We had a full 8 inches to our masthead antennas and lightning rod. I've run into a few bridge tenders who thought they were demigods but most are pretty good people. I've probably had more that stretched the open time up a bit for me than have given me trouble.
