I would like to know what paint only chips a bit.  I used a paint I thought 
would hold up, for my markers; it disappeared in a couple of weeks, leading 
me to use wire ties of different colors, instead.

As to regalvanizing, I checked into it for that same chain, 2/3 of which was 
rusting badly (staining, not deteriorating).  Unless you are in the 
immediate vicinity of a bulk galvanizer, the cost of shipping, plus the 
minimum order (which can be circumvented by piggybacking at the right time 
with another large batch) was close to the cost of new chain - which is what 
I did, saving the better 100' for storm anchor leads of 50' each (rope rode 
for the rest of it)...
