For LFS server purposes this isn't going to work because it has static IP addresses and no DHCP is available at the data centre.

How hard would it be to modify the livecd so it's able to check for network config files and use them rather than dhcp? I'd like to use a livecd as a rescue CD and leave it at the data centre.

Option 1: At the boot prompt, type 'linux expert'. This skips network loading. Once you're up, run net-setup

Option 2: Customize the CD to meet your exact needs. See:
