I think in principal, the idea of a per-track EQ is noble and warranted,
but it would have to be fit into the GUI properly. Currently, the effect
plugins are added manually and the software is designed to run with or
without them. Once we make this hypothetical "EQ" button, the LADSPA
effect that it uses becomes a much more important build dependency.
Furthermore, our existing LADSPA GUI could probably use a bit of an
overhaul for items such as a graphical EQ. Replacing the knobs with
responsive mixer-style sliders would be much more useful IMO.

Assuming this happens, the next issue is deciding which effects are good
enough to warrant their own button. For example, for some compressors and
limiters would be much more useful. HPFs and LPFs are tremendously useful
too. It's hard to justify an EQ button unless it is something that is so
commonly added to each track that it would be of tremendous use to our
users. I rarely use the EQ so I would fall into the category of users that
wouldn't benefit from this.

The last issue is performance. I mention this last because I truly believe
this is more properly the ILLUSION that every track has an EQ. To prevent
breaking our current flow, we'd have to have a macro which this EQ is
attached to which only adds it if its used. Currently we use toggle
buttons for this stuff, but to do this properly for EQ, we should look to
see if any knobs (or sliders) are in a non-zero position. I'm not sure if
our current load/unload process with LADSPAs supports such a thing, but
with enough coding and determination I'm certain this could be achieved.
