first: it does because i dont want crossfade for WaveParts but for Parts (that
is, the superclass. generalisation and stuff ;) )
second: it does make sense, for example for fading between different drum
patterns, or medleys which crossfade one melody into anothet or... or...

yep. i'd just disable the feature for multiple overlapping parts, with a hibt
why its disabled.

about fade ins/ outs: i'd let the user set (or remove) an "fade in end" and
"fade out begin marker"
if [..........] is the part and | are the markers, then
[..|.........|...........] means "quickly fade in, then play normally, then
slowly fade out"
if [....[:::::::]'''''''] are two overlapping parts, this shall be equivalent
to the first part with a fadeoutmarker set plus the secobd with a fadeinmarker
set at the very same location.
you understand? this shall be settablr in the arranger, and has nothing to do
with automation. automation is per track, fadein etc is per part.
problems:
- sane defaults? auto crossfade wave parts but not autocrossfade midi parts?
- how to fade MIDI parts? this is probably only possible via modifying the
velocity of the note events. no controllers possivle here because a) they are
per track, not pet part and b) one cant be sure that ctrl #7 is really "volume"
buuuut, what to do with synthes not supporting velo? do use CC7 then (hard or
impossi ble), or just tell the user "well that doesbt work with the synth. do
it manually via cc7 or whatever your synth wants"?
for fading appearance, i suggest fading out the faded areas optically, that is,
let transparency increase.
does that sound like a good plan?
greetings
