Cross fading parts on the same track? At first that didn't seem to make much sense to me, but I think I can see the point. But each part would need a volume controller. We don't have that mechanism. For now it is easier to just shorten the length of the first part. To me, cross fading is to be done from track to track. The last time I thought about this intensely, I concluded I would probably try to do something like: click two tracks, click a button, and it cross fades at the current cursor position. But same-track part cross fading?... Hm interesting... > >> > >> shall we do this in MusE as well? to me, this looks really cool. > >> > >> two question arises to me: > >> 1. what if the user wants overlapping parts and to NOT crossfade > > > >them? > > > >> offer a one-keystroke-way to change a part from "auto crossfade" > > > >to > > > >> "just overlap"? Yeah I think I can dig that! Sounds cool. Believe it or not, at one time MusE just arbitrarily played the next wave part that it came across, one at a time only, ignoring other overlapping parts. But we can do 'soft' volume tricks in the midi engine. Remember we spoke before of a soft volume control not requiring any midi controllers or other controllers, the soft volume simply multiplies (or adds) the event volumes by some factor before sending them to the driver. Soft volume could even operate on specific drum notes, as you see in the drum editor volume 'percent' column, without requiring XG-style drum volume controllers. > > for fading appearance, i suggest fading out the faded areas optically, that > is, let transparency increase. Interesting. Mm, I dunno 'bout that. Our transparency value is adjustable. We'll see, visual stuff can be worked out later.
