Hi there, it’s Tim Iredale here. I hope you had a good weekend. I had a very
soggy Christmas shopping trip yesterday after being caught out by the
torrential rain. Let me know if you had any similar experiences in the bad
weather and I can blame Paul on your behalf! Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I’ll be with you tonight for Look North at half past six. Tonight, we'll take a
special look at the crop that could soon be grown across our region. Once
harvested, it will be turned into fuel for our cars. We'll be reporting from
Spain where the bio fuel industry is already well established. We'll find out
what it could mean for motorists in our area.

Also tonight, we’ll be asking how safe from flooding is your home if you live
in Boston? We'll be examining a TV documentary tonight as it names Boston as
the place most at risk of flooding in the whole of the UK.

Plus we'll have the latest on the future of the Bridlington Eye and speaking to
the man, who brought the Eye to the town as he fights to get the wheel turning
once more.

And they should be an inspiration to others! We'll meet the family from
Skegness that between them have lost forty stone!

And we'll be honouring the winners and achievers in our Sports Awards tonight.
Damian Johnson will be live in Scunthorpe for the ceremony with the full
roundup of this weekend's sports news. Plus if you’re interested in the
ceremony and want to find out who has been nominated for an award, then there’s
lots more information on our website at bbc.co.uk/humber. The award ceremony
will be broadcast live on there in its entirety, so take a look.

Eat Your Greens

Do your children pick at their dinner and moan about eating greens? Well,
research suggests that whilst your baby is in the womb or when new mums are
breast feeding, eating broccoli and brussel sprouts can pass on a love for the
veg to an unborn child. Flavours of such healthy vegetables can transmit to the
baby through amniotic fluid or through the mother’s milk. So pregnant mums
should munch on some cabbage or carrots to help develop their child’s taste
buds. Children’s aversion to such foods could lie far back in our evolution.
The bitter taste that cabbage and sprouts have can be linked to the taste of
poisons attributed to plants that are protecting themselves from being eaten.
Over time, humans have developed their dislike of such a taste as they link it
with the taste of nasty toxins. But seeing as cabbage and sprouts are
exceedingly good for us, then pregnant mums should be encouraged to help their
children develop a taste for them early on!!

Plugs

A text in from over the weekend has asked for a plug in the Levy Letter, so of
course, I’ll carry on the tradition! On Sunday 9th December, the Myers
Hutchinson Stage School will be holding their Christmas Show at Preston Road
Freedom Centre. There’ll be an afternoon and an evening performance. So break a
leg to the Myers Hutchinson Stage School for their Christmas Show.

And talking of breaking a leg! I keep hearing the BBC’s panto cast warming up
their vocal chords. Rehearsals are nearing an end for them with the first
performance next week in Cleethorpes on the 12th December and then the Hull
shows start on Saturday 15th December. Lots of jittery nerves and frantic
learning of lines are going on. If you’re going to any of their shows, then I
hope you enjoy them. “Oh yes you will…!”

And a quick plug for the Celebrity Carol Concert for Hull’s Lord Mayor’s
charities. This is this Thursday at half past seven at the Street Life museum.
It’s a great evening. Peter will be doing a reading as always. So if you fancy
getting into the Christmas spirit, then tune up your voice for some carol
singing on Thursday night.

Ashley Hill has been in touch with us. The Chicago Rock café in Lincoln are
running a charity appeal. Over the Christmas period, they’re collecting new
toys and games and books to give to the children at Lincoln County Hospital on
Christmas Day. If you fancy helping out with that appeal and would like to
donate a gift, then get in touch with Ashley at the Chicago Rock café.

Well, that's it from me for now. I’m so glad the week has started off with such
glorious weather. I don’t mind the cold, so long as it’s nice and dry and so
far it looks like it is. Wasn’t it awful at the weekend? Were you out Christmas
shopping at the weekend? Did you get absolutely soaked? There’s something to be
said for indoor shopping centres isn’t there with weather like that this
weekend! Paul will be with us tonight for the forecast as usual. Hopefully,
he’ll have some good news for us!

Take care and join me tonight if you can,

Tim
