Hi there, welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope you had a good weekend. I
know the cast of the BBC’s pantomime have spent the weekend rehearsing and
learning their lines. Well done to them. I know how hard they’ve been working
on this year’s production. Top of the letter today will be a big plug for them.
They open this Wednesday in Cleethorpes. They’ll be packing up the whole show
and taking it to the Memorial Hall in Cleethorpes this Wednesday. Tickets are
still available if you fancy a bit of a mid-week laugh and sing-a-long! This
year’s pantomime is Cinderella and the show on Wednesday will be starting at
half past seven. Tickets are £8.00 and £7.00 and are available from Cleethorpes
Tourist Information Centre or you can call 01472 323111. That’s the first show
in Cleethorpes this week. Hull shows are all at the Middleton Hall on
Cottingham Road. They are Saturday 15th December at 2pm and 7pm, Sun 16th
December at 2pm and 7pm then Monday 17th - Wednesday 19th December !
at 7.30pm. Tickets are same price and are available from the Hull City Council
booking office and their number is 01482 226655. And a point to note is that
there are no New Year repeats, so the date in Cleethorpes and the Hull dates
are all there are, so book early! So break a leg to the cast and crew of the
BBC’s pantomime. I know BBC Look North’s Caroline Davis is hamming it up as
Prince Charming and I think you might be able to spot our reporters, Phillip
Norton, Simon Spark, Amanda Thomson and Leanne Brown in the cast as well. And
you can’t stop him treading the boards, BBC Radio Humberside’s breakfast
presenter, Andy Comfort will be showing his softer side for once as Buttons.
I’m sure they’re all biting their fingernails and getting butterflies in their
stomachs at this point, but they should just remember the incredible amount of
money they raise each year for charities in our region. Wednesday morning on
BBC Radio Humberside, they’ll be announcing where the money wi!
ll be going this year and which charities have been selected. !
 So suppo
rt the cast of the pantomime if you can as it’s all going to some very good
causes in our region.

Tonight’s Look North

I’ll be with you as normal for tonight’s Look North. And Paul will have the
forecast for us as usual. Tonight, we'll have the latest from the inquest into
the death of Mike Barnett, the man tragically killed in this summer's floods.
We'll be hearing from a medical expert as he gives evidence today.

We'll also have the latest on the diplomatic efforts to free a Lincoln man,
kidnapped in Iraq and held captive since May. We’ll have the full story on this
tonight.

Plus we'll take a look at a unique initiative in Hull, which claims it's found
a new way to get the homeless off our streets.

Damian Johnson will be with us for a full round up of the weekend's sports news
and looking at the fixtures for this week.

And we're on the nineties pop revival trail with an exclusive report from Shed
7's tour in Leeds last night. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six.

And at 8 o’clock tonight, we’re trying something a little bit different.
There’ll be a quick news update with both national and local stories. If you’re
late in from work and would like to catch up on what’s happening in the news,
then look out for that at 8pm.

Wrapping

How much do you hate wrapping presents? And if so, are you dreading reaching
Christmas Eve with still lots of presents to hastily wrap and throw under the
tree? If so, then this Wednesday in the Open Centre there’ll be a wrapping
expert demonstrating gift wrapping techniques. They’re wanting suggestions for
awkward shaped presents to challenge her with. We’ve come up with the normal
ones like a bottle of wine or a teddy bear. Any other awkward shaped presents,
you can think of, then let me know or pop down to the Open Centre on Wednesday
to get some handy hints!

TV

The trails are out on BBC One at the moment for the Christmas schedules. One
thing that looks quite exciting is the latest remake of ‘Oliver Twist’. Always
a big favourite isn’t it? And this latest remake has an incredible cast to its
name. Rob Brydon will be Mr Fang, Timothy Spall will be Fagin, Sophie Okenedo
will be Nancy and then they’re introducing two newcomers into the roles of
Oliver and the Artful Dodger. So that begins on Tuesday December 18th. And
another brilliant adaptation for the family over Christmas is ‘Ballet Shoes’,
the adaptation of the Noel Streatfield novel. And that’s starring Emma Watson
just arrived back from the Harry Potter set and also Victoria Wood. It’s always
a joy to see her on the screen isn’t it? Also over Christmas, something that
I’m very excited to see is the ‘Extras Christmas Special’! I’m a huge fan of
that. And it looks like there’s a huge Dance Season happening on BBC Four. I’m
sure many of us will be a bit strapped for cash over the !
festive period and might not be able to afford to go to the theatre, but
there’ll be lots of ballets and operas screened on BBC Four over the holiday
period. And as I mentioned before ‘To The Manor Born’ is coming back as well
for a Christmas special. So there are lots of programmes I’ll be circling in
the TV Guide!

Well, that's it from me for now. Take care and keep in touch with me this week.
If there’s a story that you think we should cover, then let me know. Or if you
were out and about over the weekend, then let me know where you popped to. A
busy weekend for Lincoln’s Christmas market and also for Beverley’s Festival of
Christmas. If you were out at any of those events and you happened to take a
few pictures, then send them to me so we could have a look at them on the
programme. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bye for now,

Peter
