Hi there, it’s Peter here. It's decision day for communities across East
Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, who have been fighting to save their Post Offices
from closure. Judging by the messages this morning on our answer phone, there
are many people interested to hear the results of which post offices will close
and what will replace them if anything. We'll have all the details of which are
closing and have reaction from campaigners on Look North tonight.

Also tonight, as the inquest into the death of the Hull flood victim, Michael
Barnett, heads to its conclusion, we'll take a look at the evidence given
today.

And can you remember this story? We've previously brought you the story about
Diane Goulden, who has cared for her husband ever since a serious road traffic
accident. She’s now up for a top award in London as ‘Carer Of The Year’. Her
story about her family and how they’ve coped since the accident is incredibly
moving. Our best wishes to her and tune in tonight to find out more about this
top award.

And we'll be at a Scunthorpe college today that's taken delivery of a real
Boeing 747 airplane. Tune in tonight to find out why! That’s all tonight on BBC
One at half past six. And remember, that tonight as usual we’ll be bringing you
our latest addition to our news programmes on BBC One. At eight o’clock
tonight, Hannah Moffatt will bring you a quick roundup of news from our region,
so if you’ve just stepped in from work, then switch on the TV at eight and get
up to date with what’s happening where you live!

Plugs

Lots of events are happening all over the place at the moment, celebrating all
things Christmassy. Or so I thought. An event with a bit of a twist will be
happening in Driffield this weekend. Kate Morgan emailed me and she writes,
“Hi, I am a member of Driffield Hockey club and we are holding a fund raiser
for Breast Cancer research. It is on December 16th at Driffield and it involves
two games of hockey where everyone, including the boys, have to wear a bra on
show!” So a hockey team in bras – I sincerely hope they’ve all got their
thermals on underneath the bras in this weather! Good luck to the Driffield
Hockey club on Sunday.

And a plug for people in Beverley this weekend. Liz Lauritzen emailed me and
gave me a little bit of the history surrounding the congregation of St
Nicholas’ church in Beverley. She writes, “Dear Peter, For three years the
congregation of St. Nicholas church in Beverley have been out in the cold! The
heating system was condemned, which has meant meeting in the community centre.
Finally, after all this time, the heat is back on, but not without the
considerable cost of £80,000. Local folk have been most supportive, but we
still have a way to go. So this coming Saturday 15th December we are holding a
Christmas extravaganza at Toll Gavel Church in the centre of Beverley. This is
an all day event with lots of stalls and games, not least designer floral
arrangements. To make it extra special my Danish husband and I are running a
Scandinavian stall with some absolutely gorgeous things – angels, candles,
lanterns, decorations etc. There will even be a chance to enjoy some real Dani!
sh cream cake with a coffee. My husband, who is almost eighty, has hand made
some specialities – Danish Christmas hearts, which traditionally hang on the
tree with sweets in. We are both involved with the annual Christmas market at
the Scandinavian church each year and know how popular this is. Please would
you be kind enough to give us a mention to help to make our day a huge
success.” So that email comes from Liz, who’s the Church Warden at St Nicholas’
Church. Best wishes to Liz and Eric and if you’re in Beverley on Saturday, then
pop into the Toll Gavel Church for their Christmas Extravaganza!

Well, after all those plugs and pleas for help, that’s it from me for today.
Congratulations to the pantomime cast last night from Look North and Radio
Humberside. I hear it went well. Although, there was a slight delay on stage
when Jonathan Parker couldn’t get his dress on fast enough in one of his many
quick changes! (I believe he’s one of the Ugly Sisters!) So well done to them.
Their next performance will be in Hull on Saturday at the Middleton Hall in
Cottingham. If you’re going, then enjoy and if you fancy going, then there are
still tickets left from the Box Office, so give them a ring. Lots of charities
are benefiting from their performances and they’re based all over our region.
Well done to the cast and crew!

Take care and wrap up warm if you’re venturing out in this frosty weather!

Peter
