Hi there, it’s Peter with Wednesday’s Levy Letter. Tonight on the programme,
we'll have a special report on why a body set up to protect migrant workers has
failed to make any prosecutions against rogue gang masters.

Also we'll be finding out why pubs in Hull are swapping glass for plastic and
yet still one victim of a pub glassing isn't convinced this will prevent night
time violence.

We'll be looking at our region's tourism hotspots. And as always we’ll want you
to get in touch with us! We’ll be asking you what your favourite locations are
as our region tries to sell itself to the world.

And we'll meet a man, who's taken his model making hobby to the extreme and now
has a scale model of a Lancaster bomber in his dining room. That’s all tonight
on BBC One at half past six. And a text from last night commented on the lack
of bags under Paul’s eyes! Either his little baby is very well behaved or he’s
not doing the lion’s share of the night time call outs! Either way, he’ll be
with us tonight for the weather as usual.

A couple of plugs first I think. So much is going on around our region at the
moment. Lots of Christmas activities, so it’s great to give them a mention in
the Letter. An email has come in to let me know that on the 14th December, the
villagers of Kirkby On Bain, near Woodhall Spa will be carol singing around the
nativity scene in the gazebo of the Ebrington Arms beer garden. They say that
mulled wine will be served to get them “in voice”. Very nice too!

And an email from Mike Johnson here – “Brigg District Lions are holding our
annual Christmas Fayre in Brigg Market Place on Friday 30th November starting
with the switching on of the town Christmas lights by the cast of the
Scunthorpe pantomime at 5pm quickly followed by the arrival of Santa in a trap
drawn by a pair of miniature Shetland Ponies. We have around eighty craft and
charity stalls, together with local singing groups, Morris dancers and the
Ancholme River Jazz Band.” So thanks Mike for letting us know about that.
Brigg’s a lovely town, so make a note in your diary for their Christmas Fayre
this Friday.

And I had to put in a plug for this! It’s the 25th anniversary Carol Service
this year in Lincoln Cathedral. It’s on the 16th December at 7.30pm.
Lincoln-based film actor Colin McFarlane has agreed to take part, the Band of
the RAF College Cranwell will be playing and a sixty strong young choir from
Lincoln Minister School will lead the singing. The winners of the 2007 Junior
Schools Song Competition, Caistor COE/Methodist Primary School are singing
three carols and trumpeter Rob Scullion will be performing too. And I’ve been
very honoured to be asked to do a reading as well. BBC Radio Lincolnshire and
myself will be telling the Christmas Story. So I’m really looking forward to
that. I think it’ll be a wonderful evening to celebrate Christmas. It’s on
Sunday 16th December at 7.30pm. If you do come, then come early, because it
gets very full I believe. And the service will also be broadcast at 10am on
Christmas morning as well on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. I’m very excited to be!
  a part of that.

Croak

Unlike me, if you’re lucky enough to have a garden, then you may welcome the
gentle croak and ribbit sounds coming from your amphibian neighbours! But there
are fears for Britain’s toad population. They’re at risk from a deadly
infection that has driven many of the world’s amphibians to extinction already.
At the moment the fungal toad disease is confined to Kent, where it was brought
in by important frogs. But if it spreads further, then it could, in theory,
completely wipe out the British toad population.

To The Manor Born

As you know, I love the old sitcoms like ‘Allo ‘Allo and The Good Life and Only
Fools And Horses. I never get tired of watching them again and again. Well,
good news for me at least, but I’m sure many other people will be thrilled with
this news too. The classic comedy, To The Manor Born, is to return to the TV
for a one-off Christmas special. Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles will be back
as the aristocratic Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton and Richard DeVere. The last time
we saw those characters was back in 1981 when they finally got married. Can you
remember that? This Christmas special will see the couple celebrating their
silver wedding anniversary. So I for one am very excited about that! Look out
for that on BBC One over the Christmas holidays.

Well, that's it from me for now. I hope you have a good day. Join me tonight
for the programme if you can!

Peter
