Hello and welcome to today’s Levy Letter for Tuesday. I hope you enjoyed a good
start to the week, and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight at half past
six on BBC One for today’s Look North.

Thank you as always for the responses we had to the programme, and one of our
stories is proving a big hit on the BBC News website. If you saw the programme
yesterday you’ll know about the new water based craze in Skegness. It involves
sealing yourself inside a giant inflatable ball and moving around on the
surface of a swimming pool. Each to their own. If you want to watch it again,
you can currently see it on the BBC News website as one of the most popular
videos. It’s worth a look, but I don’t think you’ll catch me in one.

Makeup

Talking of new crazes, how about makeup… for men! Well as you’ll know, we in
television have to wear makeup - for purely technical reasons of course.
Now a high street shop is to introduce a range of make-up products for men, it
includes “Guyliner”, and “Manscara”. Who thinks of these names? Both are eye
make-up products designed and marketed for men. Apparently it’s considered
fashionable for men to step out with some cosmetic products on, and perfectly
possible to remain masculine while wearing them. According to the product’s
creator, they’re “essentials any guy would borrow from his other half.”
And, “it's about subtle make-up rather than wanting to create the drag queen
look.” Well there you go. So now you can go the high street to get your
“essentials” without embarrassment. Well perhaps a little embarrassment. I
wonder what you think about this, is it now acceptable for men to buy eye liner
for themselves? It’ll be interesting to see how well these products sell on the
high street, and how many men you see strolling into the shop to stock up. Will
you be one of them? Let me know.

Jet

The business tycoon Richard Branson has unveiled the jet plane that he hopes
will carry tourists into space in his next commercial venture. A high altitude
plane will carry a smaller craft up to the edge of the earth’s atmosphere,
where the rocket powered space ship will blast away from the “mothership” up to
even greater heights, providing passengers with a weightless experience.
If you’re interested in what sounds like an incredible trip, it will set you
back a massive £100,000 for what is a relatively short experience. I think that
puts it out of most people’s reach for now.
The aircraft are currently being tested, and should be finished in about a
year’s time. I think many people would love to experience weightlessness,
although the price is huge, and the technology hasn’t been really tested yet.
Richard Branson obviously thinks there’s a market for this sort of thing, so
there must be plenty of people willing, and rich enough to put up the cash. If
you want to book your trip on a flight into space, you should start saving your
pennies now.

Open Day

A quick plug here for the Shores Centre in Withernsea. It’s the Southern
Holderness Resource Centre, serving the people of the local community including
the elderly in their homes, and also carers who need a break, among others.
They’re having an open day on the 1st of August, 10am until 4pm. If you want to
drop in, I’m sure they’d appreciate it. Thank you to Jennie from the centre for
letting me know about that.

Well that’s about it from me for today. If you’ve got anything interesting to
let us know about, drop us a line and email in to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . We’re
always on the look out for any interesting stories that matter to you, or any
unusual pictures to show before the programme.
And if you can’t be near a television tonight at half past six to watch Look
North on BBC One, you’ll be able to catch up with the latest bulletin and our
top stories at our website, www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. So now there’s no
excuse for missing out

Have a very good day, and I hope you’ll join me for the programme tonight.
We’ll have all the latest news and stories from around our patch, and also the
all important weather forecast as always.

Take care, by for now

Peter
