Hi there, it’s Peter here. Good afternoon! It’s feeling finally like a July day
isn’t it? It’s certainly warm enough for this time of year, but will it last?
Paul will have the forecast for us tonight as usual.

And there’s been some great photos coming in from you. Thanks for those. We’ll
be showing another one tonight on the programme as usual. There was one this
morning from Mr Bower, who has sent in an unusual photo of a railway engine
made out of a hedge! It was apparently made by an ex-railway driver from
Grimsthorpe Loco, Sheffield. We like the more unusual photos, so thank you very
much Mr Bower.

And we like to hear if there is anything unusual happening near where you are
or if you’ve seen something that’s caught your eye. Norma from Hull emailed in
to tell us to look down Anlaby Common Way as a gentleman on the main road has
made some unusual decorations for his garden – Postman Pat, Thomas the Tank
Engine and Bob the Builder! Norma wanted to tell us that all the kids in Anlaby
really love them! So thanks Norma for letting us know and well done to the
gentleman, who’s made some special statues in his garden!

Like last night and our 98 year old gardener, Percy Haw from Boston, we like to
feature people from our area, who are very special. So if you know someone like
Percy who makes a difference in your local area, then get in touch. We could
perhaps do a little feature on the work that they do. So let me know on the
usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to hearing from you.

Last Choir Standing

I mentioned last week about this huge event happening in Hull. It’s all part of
the BBC’s Last Choir Standing programme. Have you seen it? BBC One are
currently searching for the nation’s favourite choir and the people of Hull are
being encouraged to join in! There’ll be a giant sing along next month in the
city centre. I’ll be there – I won’t be singing though you’ll be glad to hear!
It’s a free event and you’ll have a singing workshop, plus you’ll be able to
watch choir performances too. I’ll be hosting it, so I hope to see you there
for that one. So here’s the date for your diary – Queen Victoria Square
underneath the Big Screen on Saturday 9th August at 3pm. If you want to be part
of the seated audience, then you need to register for the tickets on the
website – bbc.co.uk/lastchoirstanding or by telephone on 03700 100 150 (calls
cost no more than calls to 01/02 geographic numbers). But the actual event is
free, so I’m sure it’ll be a good day out. Hope to see you there!

Latest Fad

I remember mentioning Goji berries in the Levy Letter a year or so ago as that
was the latest must-have fruit in your diet. Why were they good? I can’t
remember, something to do with antioxidants I think. But here’s the latest
must-have fruit to pop into your supermarket trolley. And this unusual fruit
has come quite a long way from a native African tree called the Baobab. The
fruit, contained in a hard nut, has six times more vitamin C than oranges and
twice as much calcium as milk. African people have eaten the fruit for
thousands of years. The leaves can be eaten as a relish and the fruit dissolved
in water as a drink. The seeds can also produce an edible oil or eaten raw or
roasted. And waste not want not, the fruit, bark and leaves of the tree have
been used for centuries in Africa to treat medical problems like fevers and
kidney disease. We should start seeing this exotic fruit in smoothies and
cereal bars in the not so distant future. So there you go. Look out for tha!
 t!

Well, that's it from me for now. Have a lovely day and join me tonight for Look
North if you can. If you miss the programme tonight, don’t forget you can take
a look at our website where you can watch either the whole programme again, or
just specific stories. They’re all on the website at bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.

Take care,

Peter
