Considering the job task analysis for LPIC-3 just started about a week
ago, I think it's a little premature to make claim about what enterprise
expect. Let's find out with hard data when the exercise is over. I
believe the general LPI guideline regarding objective is to test "what's
out there". The JTA should give us a reliable snapshot of what is "out
there", and I will gladly accept its result. In the meantime, my
opinions and yours should be considered strictly anecdotal.

That being said, there is nothing wrong about discussing our respective
anecdotal opinion. You believe that Samba is central to Linux in
enterprise computing. Personnally, I see Linux being used a lot as
platform to run Oracle, VMware, various NIDS, JBoss/Tomcat, mail server
farm (as large volume mail hub, email and spam filtering, and as a
front-end to Exchange or Groupwise), DNS service and various low-level
network duties. Most "enterprise" (that term should really be defined
unambiguously) already have large Active Directory or Netware
deployment, and mostly do not care about Samba for file/print service
(which is the topic of exam 302). I am not saying that Samba is *not*
used in large-scale Linux deployment, just that I do not see how it
could be considered "core" in LPIC-3.

As for "putting or shutting up", exam 302 is already behind me, and I am
pretty confident about my results. If I had a vested interest in the
question, it would be to make 302 a core exam. Yet, I have doubt about
the pertinence of doing so, and I think the subject is worth a civil
discussion.
