I too have been approached about a Perl certification. Seems I am in a hotbed of perl gurus out here in the Seattle/Portland area. If a group such as the Perl Mongers or such wishes to co-develop such a thing then I see no reason why not. The only caveat is that they need to be fully on board and eager to drive a certification within their community. The last thing we need is a bunch of Perl people saying "we don't need no stinking certs" after we develop this. I'm not picking on Perl, feel free to insert your favorite outside programmers group.

Subject: [lpi-examdev] OSS developer certs anyone?

Hi everyone,

I was at OSCON earlier this year where I met a bunch of people from Perl,
Apache, PHP, Python, PostgreSQL camps that were interested in the idea of OSS
developer certs. Even through LPI ;)

Some other people are mentioning "LAMP" certs, too. Which I would view as a
"get a combination of 'certs' from the L, A, M & P categories" for a
super-cert. But maybe that isn't that case.

So here's my main question for everyone on this list. Is this something that
you want to discuss here and should I invite everyone from OSCON to join this
list? Or should I ask for a lpi-developercert list and kinda, sorta keep
this an 'admin' cert list?

Anyone with a "we don't need no stinkin' developer certs" is welcome to voice
their opinions, too.

Regards,
