This is a very common comment. We obviously need to explain that much
better on our website/FAQ:

The above statement is simply not true. We do not test any memory skills
even if it looks alike.

What we do when we ask about options or parameters is testing if a
candidate is experienced enough and did not just learn some commands for
the exam. The options and parameters we test are not of that kind that
are used rarely but such as an admin would use very often.

We are aware that it doesn't provide informations about a candidate's
administrator skill if we would ask about the ls option- D, --dired
generate output designed for Emacs' dired mode, which probably isn't
used often. On the other hand no admin should have problems with -la.

Especially commands that use -R instead of the (rather expected) -r are
useful if you try to verify that somebody has been using that command
often...

I hope I could shed some light on this topic.
