As I understand it, right now the most important things are the
Objectives. We can revisit the labs-based testing in a revision later
on -- depending on popularity. I don't think people realize the cost
involved with hands-on -- especially if so few go for it.

Let's _shelve_ this discussion until 2007+, _after_ LPIC-3 is out.

Okay, my apologies there. But let's step back again.

Samba is for Windows clients. NFS is also a _crucial_ consideration for
_enterprises_ too. We're not just talking about Linux as a server and
Windows as a client, but native UNIX/Linux file services too.

NFS is one of the most under-dissected details, with most people only
using legacy "sys" authentication. Especially with the new user-space
support for kernel 2.6 NFSv3/v4 -- in addition to services Red Hat
(among others) have offered for 2.4 as well.

Security seems to be a dead-ringer in everyone's book.

I detailed my suggestion to use the 7 domains of the ISC2's SSCP back in
January 2004:
  http://list.lpi.org/pipermail/lpi-discuss/2004-January/001064.html

1. Access Controls
2. Administration
3. Auditing and Monitoring
4. Risk, Response and Recovery
5. Crytography
6. Data Communications
7. Malicious Code/Maleware

Now I understand SELinux is a _major_ driver in LPI Japan. We can't go
overboard, but it needs to have a good focus.

Good to hear!

Now I need to hit the site and look at the Objectives development thus
far.

The existence of Linux has far more to do with the breakup
of AT&T's monopoly than anything Microsoft has ever done.
