My attitude has been, from LinuxWorld Boston on-ward (based on the notes
I took), is that we:

1. Get the initial, LPI 300 series task analysis completed and focus on
the "most desired" objectives and 2 initial exams out for a 2007 release

2. After that, go back in 2007 and and rev LPI 100** and 200 objectives
and exams to better match in a new 2008+ release

[ **NOTE: That would include separating out the "non-technical" stuff
from LPI 101/102 into the (previously discussed) "LinuxCore" (level 0)
web cert. ]

3. And finally, in 2008, focus on more LPI 300 series objects and exams
for those items done in previous task analysis that did not make it into
the 2 initial exams

After #3, we can go back and give "specialty" titles for passing each
LPI 300 series exam (Enterprise Networking, Network File Services,
Database Administration, Collaboration and Mail Services, etc...) as
well as award a LPIC-4 "master" title for passing "n" (possibly all) LPI
300 series exams. All with *0* additional development.

One thing that I really don't want to professionally hear is that LPIC-3
concepts I've been suggesting are "too hard" or "not applicable" to a
function. If you want to explore services on their own more, then they
should go into the LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 revisions. We have already covered
NFS and Samba basics in LPIC-1 and LPIC-2.

So for LPIC-3, in my strongest, professional opinion, we should be
recovering them and then just "adding standalone depth" at LPIC-3. We
should be showing how you build a Linux-centric _enterprise_network_
with those services -- _integrated_ and not just "oh, I don't care about
that."

The "I don't care about that" attitude is why I get a lot of my
consulting work. We're not "Samba" administrators at LPIC-3, we're
administering Network File Services across an enterprise. We do more
than just connect Windows clients to Linux servers, but we show how to
maintain network authentication/objects across Linux servers (even if
our clients are 100% Windows).

You can't do that without hitting on native UNIX/Linux authentication,
objects, resource maps (e.g., automounter), filesystem level issues for
network filesystems (and not just how Samba share are setup, or how you
can map your Samba principals to ADS ones), etc... LPIC-3 is not about
"one service" -- but services used in an enterprise.

There are many people both with and without certs who don't have jobs or
don't care to take the ones that are offered to them. I learned early
on after I began consulting that some jobs are not worth taking.

Why? I'm just very strongly opinionated. If I didn't care about LPIC-3
development, I wouldn't post with such verocity.
