I am planning on adding the ip command to LPIC-2. > Another propositions... let's give people possibility to choose if they > want to pass LPIC 101 + LPIC 102 or combined exam (I don't know - call > it LPIC 103) - just like Cisco CCNA where we have INTRO + INCD or > 640-802. Do you mean that they combined the two exams into one longer exam? How do the exam costs compare? BTW, the LPIC exams were broken down into smaller exams just so that people wouldn't have to prepare for too much material at once. I think that I would have a tough time convincing the guys with the cheque books on the value of publishing 101, 102 and 101+102. Let me know if I misunderstood. > Why we should do that? Because in my opinion LPIC certification is too > expensive. One exam would reduce the price. There are ways around the cost. For example, the exams are generally discounted (steeply) at Linux events. Plus, the ability to get the certification in smaller steps make it less 'all or nothing' which could get more expensive if the candidate doesn't pass on the first try. Also, when the JTA surveys start up for LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 (very soon now), there will be some free exams (they have to be the paper ones at the events or exam labs around the world) awarded to people that complete the survey. > LPIC2 - ok, 2 exams because it's not as easy as LPIC1. Heh. Easy is in the eye of the beholder. I've watch some people fail 101 and/or 102 repeatedly. > LPIC3 - make it difficult, very difficult, but give people possibility > to be LPIC3 certified without needing to pass LPIC1 and LPIC2 exams > (just like Cisco CCIE). This has been discussed before. My reluctance with this approach is that LPIC-3 is a series of very specialised exams which assume all of the LPIC-1/2 knowledge but doesn't test any of it. > There should be also simulations like on Cisco exams - not only > learning everything by heart. Cost and ubiquitous availability are the stumbling blocks on this one. > Many comparisons to Cisco...sorry, but I know only their certification > program. No worries. I like to compare the LPI exams to the PMP and CISSP exams (and LPI to the (ISC)2 and PMI organisations). They're great models of where I would like to see LPI go. Especially, the 'professional recertification' where experience, continued education, community work, writing, etc are used to determine ongoing recertification.
