I've been looking all over the web for this information and I don't see to be able to find it so I'm going to post here.

I'm configuring an LPRng (3.8.26) installation on a box running Solaris 9. My current LPRng installation on another box uses the ifhp filter and things are working just fine. I thought I'd switch to foomatic-rip (version 3.0-20040505) as a filter because it used ppd files. The problem is I can't seem to figure out how to hand two items from the control file to foomatic-rip so that I can access them in my a2ps options. Or maybe this isn't even possible. On all of our text printouts we have a header of "Printed by: username" the users also like the filename to be printed, centered in a gray border at the top of the portrait printout. The LPRng documentation says that the values of the control file are passed on the commandline to a print filter so I'm assuming that foomatic-rip is getting these values. Question is how do I pull one out to use among my a2ps options? I was able to do it with ifhp. Right now I have all other a2ps options defined in the filter.conf file.

TIA for any help,
Lisa
