+1 for me.
Ubuntu back porting policy is horrible and the last stable LTSP version
is (have to say) still 4.2 where everything just worked.
Unfortunately lots of new applications / desktops just need some recent
X server so you are forced to LTSP-5.
I must say I have already given up - I submitted several bug reports and
none really cared. So I will stay with LTSP & Ubuntu Hardy (its LTS
anyway) with my own patches that make it at least working fine.

The long term strategy is to get rid of thin clients. Why?
The biggest problem is that you have to constantly fight with the pixmap
problem in FF and Openoffice. You need a thin client with at least 0.5Gb
RAM to make it working with LTSP-5 and these apps.
Ooooh use NBD to swap you say? Never. NBD is not designed to be used
this way and will sooner or later lead to a kernel deadlock. Everyone
seems to know it but none really care.

I can not afford this - I need a stable client that always work. LTSP
looks like it will be fighting with these problems forever.
As it was already said - it is nice for non-profitable institutions or
smaller companies, but it is simple not stable enough to be widely accepted.
