The good thing of this thread is that people are communicating. Before being a volunteer, I followed a lot discussions at Ubuntu Forums and Ubuntu lists such as lubuntu-users, xubuntu-devel and also their IRC meeting logs and xubuntu-users and Lubuntu social media channels. For some odd reason, Lubuntu is a community were lots of people seem to like the flavor, but only a few really contribute. > > ... /and I'm sure there are several other persons who are qualified/ > > But are you/they prepared to spend the time necessary? > > I'm not sure if I'm saying +1 or it's just another doubt or suggestion. > > Is Lubuntu development stalled? > > Let's see the facts, only what I know from the empirical observation: > 1) there's a security high priority bug assigned to Julien and nothing > has been done since Julien acknowledged the bug exists and should be > patched, however nobody (no devs) have time: > > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1205384/comments/29 > > We could talk to the Xubuntu people, their solution could be just fine for > Lubuntu. Look at > http://www.webupd8.org/2013/07/light-locker-new-session-locker-for.html Julien has replied to the bug a few minutes ago. When I'm at home, I'll test the patch. I invite everyone to test it too. > > > 2) Lubuntu has some minor nasty bugs such as ghost icons on PCManFM, > drag and drop problems on PCManFM too, and some other minor stuff all > around. > > Has someone links to according bug reports? It's just a silly error at .lubuntu-rc.xml if you check the workaround at ubuntuforums. But as I said before: Lubuntu should redefine what's "works out of the box". We could also redefine: Linux for human beings. Or if we take Lubuntu motto: lightweight, fast, easier Easier? How do we expect to attract newcomers if 13.10 cycle was kind of a mess and the 13.10 product is kind of a mess? Is that easier for newcomers? IMHO, I do not think so. If Lubuntu is planning to be a flavor for developers and their contributors/members, ok, I can live with the current bugs. However, if I was reference for anything, the world would be a pain.... For instance, I'm brazilian, the country of soccer, samba (carnival)... For me, those things are useless. But that's only me. Back to Lubuntu cause: if Lubuntu devs do not communicate here because there're too many emails, why don't they create a list like lubuntu-devel, only for development issues? I'm not sure if that's the issue though. I'm not pessimistic nor optimistic. I'm saying what I see at the Lubuntu empirical world. No offense to anybody. Again, sorry if anybody feels offended. I just invite you to read the archives and meeting logs of other teams... while people communicate in other communities, communication is not the best in our Lubuntu community. I wish you all a nice weekend too! > > > Said in another way, I think Lubuntu needs new or more developers. > Maybe we need also a new Developer Team Leader. > > I'm not asking for Julien to leave. We > should care about him and try to help him doing his work. I hope he's fine too. I wish the best for everybody. I care a lot about him and lots people and causes... and that's why I emphasize that people should be humble to stop and think if they're leading as they should... If they don't have time, then they should stop leading and pass the Leader hat to an appropriate Leader. But that seems hard even with Lubuntu: 1) phillw has left. His TL role is empty and nobody wants to join. 2) comms TL has resigned and nobody wants to join either. 3) QA TL: same... Some would say: yes, it's easy to talk.. yes, it is. IMHO, I hope only the best for all of us and Lubuntu. I'll keep supporting on QA, testing and social media as much as I am able to. I also hope that we'll see some movement after vUDS next week. > > > If Julien is ok, he would be a great developer supporting Lubuntu. > Again, I'm not asking for his "head".
