What I was trying to say is that it's not as clear as light & day whether you hire based on certifications or experience if a candidate has only one or the other. However, a certification, if well understood, provides a great platform for feature details, which are very useful in the field. Also, experience cannot be underestimated - it reduces the potential for experimenting which can be expensive if uncontrolled. If you're ever in such a situation, know what you're looking for and find out whether the candidate has your requirements in the short, medium or long term, and how all that ties in with your objectives as a function of how long you think your new employee will stay with you and how much you invest in them. I'm afraid in this case, one size doesn't fit all. Interview them and go with what works best for you. Mark.
