This could be late, but here's my submission.

Asterisk IP PBX by digium  can offer you telephony features you can only
dream of from legacy traditional PBXes. I've used it myself but it requires
serious expertise. However,  the "all-in-one" asterisk based solutions like
asteriskNow, FLASHPBX,Tribox,  ElasticPBX that come pre-installed with a
Linux distro are alot easier to setup And admin being equipped with
web-based management GUIs and also the necessary dependencies.

Great thing about the open source PBX is that it's interoperable with a
wide range of IP/SIP compatible  phone vendors like Cisco, avaya,  digium
phones etc(check list from asterisk website), hence you avoid a vendor
lockin problems.
