https://lists.linux.org.au/pipermail/linux-aus/2020-March/023638.html Above is the discussion in the Linux Australia archives. My proposal of a Linux Australia policy of cancelling all in-person meetings was rejected in March 2020. > It is a concern of mine that governments are rushing to open up too much > too soon, especially as under 12 year children can't get vaccinated yet. I agree. But also I think that LUG meetings aren't THAT important in the scheme of things. If someone dies after going to Woolworths (my local Woolworths has been an infection site) then it's something you have to deal with, you can't stop buying food. If someone dies after attending a LUV meeting then it would be a needless tragedy, people can learn about Computer Science through an online meeting. > While we don't have many young children attending meetings, people who > do attend may have such kids at home, who are still at risk (I have one > here who turns 12 next month). True. Nowadays the age demographic of LUV meetings fits parents and grandparents. > My workplace has committed to work from home until at least February. The Linux community is prone to extremism. There is a reasonable chance of having an antivaxxer try and mess things up. I'd rather wait until there isn't a need to require that everyone be vaccinated, but I'm open to debate on this issue. I am not open to debate on the issue of making health risks to members a much higher priority than the benefits of an in-person meeting. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ _______________________________________________ luv-main mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
