Hi everyone,
Firstly I hope this email finds everyone and their loved ones safe and
well. Thank you for locking down hard to keep the country safe and well.
Restrictions and limitations for group gatherings are a) different
across the country and b) in a state of flux with different states
opening up on different timelines.
Any decision and discussion on what the appropriate restrictions are for
in-person gatherings is going to need to consider insurance obligations
under LA's insurance, local Victorian restrictions and public health
orders, and the needs of the community. These are fluid and require a
considered, flexible approach that will need to evolve as restrictions
and obligations change over time.
In my view, the goal that LUV needs to work towards here is a COVIDSafe
Event Plan - that would need to align with the Public Events guidance
from the Victorian Government [0], any insurance restrictions from LA,
and the needs of the local community. This could then be updated as
restrictions and obligations change.
Discussion and debate is worthwhile and needed; it should also be
harnessed into a concrete objective.
Regards,
Kathy Reid

Above is the discussion in the Linux Australia archives.
My proposal of a Linux Australia policy of cancelling all in-person meetings
was rejected in March 2020.
