Well, for what it is worth here is the beginning of a file printed from
Word-97 using my PS driver. (My printer is HPLaserJet5MP - haven't tried
the Adobe driver that was suggested - good Idea! I will give that a try
and thanks to Matthew! )
Here is the beginning of the file:

I just edited to remove everything before "%!PS-Adobe..."
Here is the end of the file

I just edited and removed the last two "strange" lines from the file and
found that I could then ftp the file from W95 to the Unix box and it would
work on the Unix printer just fine. Annoying but not too hard to do if you
don't have too many of them
Of course when you move it to the UNIX box you must make sure that it is
in UNIX not DOS format, i.e. change all the CR/LF's to just LF's, else you
will also get junk when printing, e.g. streams of nearly blank pages!! A
very unpleasant occurrence especially if you use a Network printer. Good
way to become unpopular in a hurry! <G> Most UNIX systems have apps to do
this conversion. If anybody wants/needs it, I can E-mail them copies of
DOS progs that will also do this for you.
Note an improved driver just might make this "academic" but you would
still have to be sure that you fixed the files to the proper Unix line
endings or the UNIX PS printer will not work. Haven't looked into what
this will do to an EPS file included into LaTeX/LyX doc. Many FTP progs do
this automatically for you anyway.
HTH but this sort of summarizes my experience so far anyway...
Regards
Henry
