I'm not so sure that pstex is the best way to get figures with formulas to
latex/lyx. My favorite method is export as eps and the use of psfrag. Some
time ago I posted detailed instructions, that can be found in the list
archive (I hope so). Advantages are:

- only one file per figure
- labels are included in the eps-file, the figure can be understood also
  standing alone (if the text labels are choosen reasonably)
- you can change the labels without reediting your figure
- you can input your formulas and symbols as math-insets.
