My apologies for taking so long to get around to responding to this, Guenter. 
Thanks very much for it. When I get back to it I will follow up on your second 
suggestion quoted above. I'm sure in doing so I'll have further questions. 

I've never done any scripting at all. I guess simple batch files for DOS would 
come closest, but they really were very simple. So not sure how well I'll be 
able to followup on your first suggestion. 

For the moment though I'm bogged down--well, in a good way; I'm enjoying it--in 
a revision process that's turning into a significantly expanded writing 
project. I keep thinking I'll be done soon and it keeps expanding.

I definitely do appreciate your help, though.
