Well i think we might have figured out why the REX is not working. I sent a photo of my TRS80 M100 to Stephen and he asked me what the heck I was using. Turns out the guts of my M100 resemble a Kyotronic KC-85 more then they do a Tandy M100. So it's a good bet this is why the REX isn't working. Another indication is the lack of a modem connector on the motherboard. The case has a blanking plate covering where the port should be.
Stephen has suggested that someone has swapped the internals in my M100, so it's a KC85 in a Tandy case. However having looked inside this machine, i have to say it looks really clean and tidy. If i didn't know better, i would say it was sold like this originally. But i've not owned my m100 / KC85 for that long, so can't really say.
