You must remember that the M100 was created at a time when it was "the
norm" to use flat ribbon cable to make connections to computer peripherals.
This was true for parallel and serial connections to external devices
(modems, printers, plotters, etc) as well as connection between two
computers. The serial cables that Radio Shack sold were this type to
connect a M100 to a Model III or a Model 16.

This was also a time before rigid adherence to much of the FCC testing for
spurious emissions and susceptibility were required for
computers/peripherals and inter-connect cables (the sort of test failures
that killed the Model I and created the Model III).

An IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) version of the DB-25 variety
with a flat ribbon cable connects just fine to the opening on the M100, and
was what was expected to be used. The problem now days comes from the use
of the shielded cables that were introduced with the IBM
PC/XT/AT computers. These were required to pass the FCC testing, and are
the style that are available today. Most have molded "hoods" that vary
somewhat in size, and were not designed to be used in a shrouded opening.

When the M200 and T102 were created, the shrouded opening in the case was
made bigger to accommodate these shielded style cables.

Regards,

Peter
