Hello Rose

Again, I forgot to change the default mail account; sorry.

Hello Rose

Actually the specs i gave you are wrong. The server contains the i7 not the i5.
I'm going to ring Apple and see what they say. They might not entertain it
because we bought the machine on 13 July which is more than a wee ago.

But I'm pretty miffed to be honest. I just tried to upgrade the software to
Lion Server using Apple's up to date programme. When I entered the serial
number the web applet at Apple kept telling me that it wasn't a valid serial
and system But it was. When I hit the "Continue" button, it gave me a link to
the App store and said enter the redemption code. But guess what, there's no
darn code! I really wish Apple would get their act together sometimes.

Hi Lynne,

In answer to your question re the Core 2 Duo vs the Core i5 in the new
Mac Mini server, I'd expect a significant performance upgrade. These
new Core i5 and i7 CPUs are a full 2 generations beyond the Core 2 Duo
and benchmarks show them slaughtering the older Duos.

The i5 in the server Mac Mini is quad core whereas the i5 and i7
options in the non-server Minis have 2 physical and 2 hyperthreaded
cores. But either way when compared to the Duo you are getting a much
better architecture, more cores, larger cache and better memory
bandwidth.

I've been holding fire on a Mac purchase until these new updates hit
and if you can RMA or otherwise get the newer Mini model then I
suspect you'd absolutely see the benefit -- especially in a 24/7
server box.
