Hi Mary, The regular Adobe Digital Editions interface is flash-based, I think. The current Adobe Digital Editions Preview version 1.8 is a beta that was only released at the end of July. It's also the only one that is accessible to screen readers either through the Mac or Windows. From the point of view of public libraries, this capability of the Preview version does not officially exist yet. Don't expect any details to describe it. I'll have to check whether I can download library ebooks through OverDrive and have them read out. Bluefire Reader is definitely not accessible to VoiceOver, so don't waste your library download by transferring to it at this time. I'll have to check OverDrive through the library borrowing interface, since I can't get other ebooks with Adobe ADE DRM into the app. OverDrive is accessible for audiobooks, but I don't know about ebook downloads. It might work. It should work on public domain ebooks without DRM that some libraries link to.
You should be able to download to your computer and read the book there. I don't think you can authorize any other device except the one you download your borrowed book to, so check this is where you want to read before trying anything. You have to have the software in place before you try to download, I think. And absolutely do not expect to be able to move the file to another computer and have it work. It might support a transfer to the iPod Touch or iPad, but maybe only through the inaccessible Bluefire Reader if you start by downloading to your computer. HTH. I wonder if the overdrive ebook reader for IPad works with VO.
