With all this OS X talk, I'm reminded of a question I've been meaning to ask:
We have two 400MHz G3 macs at our house (a slot-loading iMac and a Firewire "Pismo" PowerBook), both running 9.2.2. I recently put an additional 512 MB of RAM into each, in preparation for the move to Jaguar (a copy of which I purchased but have yet to install). For word processing, I've stayed with Word version 5.1a for several years now, never feeling the need to upgrade to what seemed like some of the bloatware versions which followed. I do however have a lot of files with a lot of formatting (including headers, footers, different sections, and extensive tables), and will be wanting the ability to see all that formatting in whatever OS X word processor I end up using. My question is, can something like the current version of AppleWorks open and successfully translate all the formatting of a Word 5.1 document, or will it open it as a text only file? What would people suggest as a reliable OS X word processor which can deal happily with all the formatting in my Word 5.1 files? (I don't want to have to go into Classic mode every time I want to view, modify, or reprint one of these files.)
