Um, what are you talking about? You do understand that Office 98 has
nothing to do with the PC Office 97, don't you? That it has many
features that didn't appear on the PC versions till Office 2000?

Sorry, I like a good round of MS bashing as much as the next Mac
worshipper, but I draw the line at supporting falsehoods.

1. Office 98 was written from the ground up as a Mac application by
the newly formed (at that time) Macintosh Business Unit. It is, in
many, many ways, functionally far superior to the PC equivalent,
Office 97.

2. Office 98 is not bloated by any definition. It runs speedily on a
suitable processor. I have it on an 8100/100 where it runs quite
nicely.

3. The "scrap files and edit crap" that you refer to are part of any
word processor I've ever used, including the venerable, much
respected, Corel WordPerfect. If you want to get rid of them, simply
uncheck the "allow fast saves" option.

4. Smart quotes are an option. Simply turn them off. Why you would
want to is another question. Personally, I like my documents to look
professional.

5. What messed up document translation? I don't do it often, but I've
never had a problem translating a Word doc to either Appleworks or
Wordperfect.

Admittedly, Office/Word 98 is too much of a word processor for most
people, but for people who make their living doing any kind of
writing, there isn't a better, more flexible, more capable app.

So, come on and get real. There are enough easy targets at MS and in
the windows world without having to make up things. After all, that's
what we accuse them of.

Cheers - Steve K.
