Hello Everyone, I'm afraid I'm new to the list and find myself having to pose a somewhat OT question.
I bid on a keyboard for my Mac from a Canadian buyer on the 13th. Now this buyer is telling me that Postes Canada is on strike. The galling part is: He was originally wacking me $50+ US for shipping and handling for the keyboard. Fair enough, since I knew of that in advance and his outrageous S/H charges were stated in the auction. The keyboard is supposed to be shipped via Canada Post, First Class, in case you were wondering if it was being Fed-Ex'd overnight or something elaborate and expensive; most of the S+H fee is going directly into the seller's pocket. Well, the auction ended on the 13th, I went to PayPal to pay him...and I see an _additional charge_ on the PayPal invoice for "Insurance (required)." I was absolutely furious when I saw that the seller was trying to nail me for even more money _after the auction was over_. There was absolutely no mention of insurance (required or otherwise) in the auction listing. What I finally got out of him (after exchanging three emails) is: Canada Post is on strike. The seller claims that they've already lost two packages on him in the last few days. I looked online, and the accounts I've seen so far indicate that the _support workers_, not the mail handlers themselves, are on strike and that service should not be affected. So I'm trying to figure out: *Has* postal service, in fact, been impacted by this strike and What date did the strike start? >From what I can tell, it began on December 9th, but there were rumblings about it in November. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with labor strikes in Canada, but I know that in the US, there's quite a bit of warning before an actual strike takes place because strikes are usually bad news for everyone. I'd be grateful for any information you folks could share on this. <wrings hands>. Best, James Fraser -- Mac Canada is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
