Although, to be fair to Apple and 95%+ of their customers, CDs are an
expense that would drive up the price of OS X and would reduce Apple's
profitability (and, a profitable Apple means a vibrant Apple which
means we continue to get new toys which don't have the MS lable on
them).

With the exception of a handful of users (like yourself ;-), the
market for OS X 10.4 is dominated by machines with DVD drives (only
the early iMacs, some iBooks, a few eMacs and some of the B&W G3s lack
DVD playback).

But... I do understand the frustration.
