Getting a non-supported modem to work with a Mac is always a real challenge in my experience. By non-supported I mean that there isnt a specific modem script file for the modem concerned (the modems name doesnt appear in the popup menu in the Modem control panel). What the modem script file does is tell the computer what exact commands are used in the modem for specific functions.
Although there is a theoretical standard for modem commends (Hayes AT), there is a very wide range of variations to it, and each modem tends to have its own dialect. Hence the fact that you dont get a report back of the speed the modem is connecting at when the modem connects its success message will be non-standard and hence the modem script cannot extract the connection speed from it. Thats the background in practice there are only four possibilities: 1. Try all the modem scripts until you find one that works. 2. Find a custom script for your modem try typing modem into the search field at versiontracker. 3. Write your own script try the Apple Modem Script Generator for this at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/375 4. Get a modem that is supplied with a script, or that is listed in the popup menu in the Modem control panel. Hope this helps!
