The b&w use exactly the same case design as the 7200/7500/7600/7300 IIRC.
The 7100's case is pretty similar externally too, though I forget what it
looks like inside... hmm looking at the one under my desk, fairly different.

OK, time for a lesson in recent Mac History and Nomenclature....

The *original* G3 Beige DT used the 7x00 case design, while the MT used the 8600 Tower, and was the last of long lineage of 'Old World' PowerMacs, most of which you are doubtless familiar with.

The Blue & White (that's what the B&W stands for) G3 was the first PowerMac to use a 'New World' ROM (originally introduced on the iMac) system and the new Aqua style case. It set a new standard in case design that has yet to be even approached in most PC circles. The system was a midi-height tower with the now famous '4 handles' on the corners. Access was a simple matter of clearing a flat surface to the right of the machine and pulling the handle situated on the uppre edge of the right hand side. The whole side just hinged down, allowing full access to drives, RAM, the CPU, PCI slots etc... The really good trick was you could do all this without even shutting it down! This design was carried right through the PowerMac G4 range and was only phased out of production with the introduction of the G5 PowerMac in May 2003 (was it REALLY that LONG ago??).

It's in my top 10 Mac designs at number 1. I have one on my desk, and I openly confess to loving it very much.
