I don't believe there is much to add to powerful word processors myself. Its question of the interface and sleekness.
Not sure I follow this.
I mean I like a simple text editor, with RTF and a word translator, for everyday use. The question of ease of use, interface, and speed remains in any package.
However, I downloaded 'Ragtime Solo', a fully-featured package, and it looks excellent after 10 minutes use. Have yet to fully explore its spreadsheet power etc.. Runs very fast. For free!!
Also took a look at Mellel, which is quite nice. Do not like the brushed metal appearance. The bibliography pallette interested me ,perhaps clusmy, as it needs to rely on a database anyway, which could do the work for you. Definitely aimed at academics, rather than creative writers.
This from the manual:
"Importing Microsoft Word (.doc) files:
Mellel offers an option to open MS Word (.doc) files by dragging and dropping .doc files over Mellel's application icon in the finder. This option is available to you via a utility called "AntiWord," a free MS Word reader written by Adri van Os. You can find more details about AntiWord here: http://www.winfield.demon.nl/
Thanks for the info about translation in Mellel Roger.
My conclusion is that we all need a tailor to make our own bespoke text processor!
