Hello folks,

In coming weeks I intend to ditch dial-up and go to broadband; I'm also intending to go wireless as well. Sadly I am a complete ignoramus with regards to networks, and any answers to some of these questions, as well as other top tips, would be warmly welcome

Hi Giles
Bt Broadband do a recommend a friend scheme whereby everyone involved gets a 10 to 20 kickback depending on the service chosen or donate to childline if you wish.
I can recommend BT based on my own experience as a user and as a BT broadband engineer. They will sell you a variety of modems and routers including wireless which arrive on about the same day as your service is enabled. If you know anyone who works for BT or is a shareholder they can get discounts on the stuff for you.

Last week I had what you might call the dream job for an Apple loving BT man provide broadband for Apples new distribution centre. (they use BT broadband as well) No pressure 3 apple guys waiting to get connected and the warehouse manager trying his best to impress them. I installed the router in a comms cabinet and patched through the ethernet ports to the boardroom and watched them struggle to get connected. No one had a clue what to do so going beyond the normal call of duty I showed them how to log in to the router and then login to broadband which didn't work , took a call to the helpdesk to discover that they had the wrong password. Simple only took a couple of minutes. Incase anyone is interested they had No stock of G5 iMacs in the warehouse.
Good luck
John
