Yes, I also highly recommend doing this if you feel you can do without Dashboard (I personally think it's a waste of space anyway but that's just one opinion in a sea of thousands that seem to like it). It's easy to do you can download a plugin Preferences pane to do it.
FWIW Dashboard re-drawing and animation speed really sucks unless you have Quartz Extreme Supported AGP graphics chip.
