I can create an ODB document that uses the MySQL Connector J driver on the
MacIntel. The only problem is that it is completely unusable. I can connect
to my remote datasource, when I click on the tables icon from within the ODB
document, OOo asks for the user id and password, so far so good. The list of
tables appears.

However, if I try and double-click on one of the tables, or I try the context
menu entry "Open", then OOo freezes and has to be killed. The tables are
never displayed, no error messages are thrown.

Another thing, the connexion only works if in this configuration if you start
OOo before opening the ODB document. if you try and open the ODB document
directly from the Desktop, then OOo will complain that it can't find Java or
the classpath identifying the JDBC driver implementation. How flakey is
that ? But this is off topic, here, since I was initially talking about ODBC
drivers ;-)
