Isn't that what Release Notes and "technology preview"-like-tags are for?
Take one of the latest to-be-dev300mX-beta builds and label it properly (as
long as it doesn't crash on every second user action).

Dev300_m3 has major problems. Thus I would not recommend using it for any evaluation/testing purposes.
On the other hand, as far as I understand the mac port is almost aquatic, so
this the most critical time for porters-developers (who have worked so
hard), that something doesn't get wrong, at least in the perception of the
general public, so I would give them the last word on this decision, and not
the always eager community members, like myself ...

The last expected X11 release will be 2.4 and any subsequent updates. OpenOffice.org 3.0 will be only Aqua, no X11 builds are expected. Thus it will be very important that much testing be done when the Beta release is put up.
