Benjamin Fleischer <mailto:[email protected]> June 21, 2011 5:30 PMOne problem I see is the support for Leopard. It has been a lengthy discussion here if it is acceptable to drop Power PC support. Dropping support for 10.5 entirely might be too radical for some people, but this is just my opinion.
How about a compromise here?I'm assuming the issue here just relates to supporting PPC primarily, as well as 10.5 to a lesser extent?
Since it doesn't appear like we have vast armies of testers right now that are willing to test this project on all of these different platforms and OS iterations, why don't we continue to build this project so that it continues to work in 10.5/PPC for as long as we can, but we simply state that users are on their own in not fulfilling our recommended requirements, and that we aren't committed to supporting 10.5/PPC? We can still build Universal Binaries in Lion, right?
Something's gotta give... As far as stuff to support we have: - 10.5.x 32 bit PPC - 10.5.x 32 bit x86 - 10.6.x 32 bit x86 - 10.6.x 64 bit x86 - 10.7.x 64 bit x86I think most end users would understand that we can't fully support all of this? On the other hand, if the project does end up being not just maintained by a single person, we could also invite people to help support these older combinations for as long as the interest is there. Leave it up to the community, but the core team can focus on the newer stuff.
