Unsure exactly. The + is very odd in there as googling I nearly always see
something like:

application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2

Could you have typo'd that? + does sometimes mean > 1.4.2, so it could be
something they've done (or they could have typo'd it).

Quite possibly their applet-html is out of date. To put an applet in a
webpage, Java developers have had to use increasingly cryptic incantations
and it seems that an older incantation no longer works with the
jpi-version or something. Googling, I can see various complaints from the
Linux-Mozilla users.

Another possibility is that OS X doesn't pick up 1.4.2 but only 1.4.2_03
or something silly. These are the kinds of reasons I steer clear of applet
jobs :) Painful world.
