My CD drive started acting up in week 51 of the last year. With AppleCare, I got a new one free at MacTown, no questions asked. I wanted to extend AppleCare after the 3rd year, but Apple would not sell it to me. If you buy with some American Express cards, AmEx adds 1 year to the mfgr's warranty. I recently bought a HDD on line.
